An article in The Observer on Sunday January 27th 2008 shows just how easy it is to be confused by the spin. In the article author Nick Mathiason attributed "income splitting" to the "super-rich" and mixed it in with non-domiciled and Capital Gains Tax issues. The Family Business Tax doesn't really affect the "super-rich" at all - but all the confusion which can be spread does help the Government spin its case. In truth the "super-rich" won't be affected by this tax at all - how many of them actually care about the £6,000-£7,000 which thousands of small family businesses could lose? Just why would millionaires bother with the hassle of setting up shell companies to save £6k a year? There's some serious spinning going on here to try and relate wholly unconnected issues. A less confused article can be found in The Independent on Sunday of December 16th 2007 |
